It's a bit late to keep debating!
A piece of hardware that was purchased running Windows XP can now be considered "old", it will for the most part do what we want it to with a modern Linux distribution.

FYI we spent a few hours discussing the above and decided to assume
visitors would not bring unsuitable very old H/W. We will also have S/W
to diagnose unsuitable H/W and will advise against installation if
necessary. We also hope to have handouts on various applications that
are on our 3 remixes with "helpers" who can sow their use.
Rightly or wrongly we assumed few people will arrive with antiquated H/W
and decided we would not offer another more suitable cut-down OS.
Even in our small group we had quit big differences of opinions but we
had to move on and make decisions otherwise there would be no event!
Of course if other members of the LUG want to hold a further event with
different aims, they are welcome to do so.
PS just saw Chris's reply but still thought this relevent!
Regards
