Hi,

We are getting everything sorted and look forward to seeing some of you
on the 15th.

In case you are not aware, we will be showing 3 OS's, Mint, Ubuntu and
SuSe and 3 desktops using Live USB sticks which visitors will be free to
keep.

We have designed a flyer and would appreciate if you could publicise the
event in your work place or circulate amongst your many friends!?:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45909169/linuxlive-poster.content.v2c.jpg

It will also be on the LUG website.

Later in February we will be asking for volunteers to help at the event
for a couple of hours or more!

Regards

Not too much to say, date time & place is on the flyer.

The Pervasive Media Studio access is between the Cafe and Bar of the
"Watershed".
We have 3 areas a "Meeting Room" with sample videos of the three OS's,
an "Open Lounge" area with fully installed systems to play on (faster
than a live usb stick), there people can decide which OS they want to
try, they will then be given a stick to try in the "Main Area".

"Helpers" will be on hand in all areas but we do not intend installing
on to HD's unless we have the time!

The live sticks can be taken home and install if required.

Live OS's normally have an "Install To HD" icon which allows the OS to
be installed without problems. The 3 distros have been remixed to fit
on to the 1GB sticks. They will have all the S/W for basic desktop
use/demonstration.

We will also have handouts on the 3 OS's and other relevant S/W together
with guides and "freebies".

For sure I will, only in one thing I disagree : "Got an old PC, need a
fast PC" people will think to resurrect paleolithic hardware. Also
Linux to be competitive with other OS need a decent hardware, if you
want watch youtube, stream music, fast boot etc. We are not a
community of vintage hardware! The message to pass in my opinion is
"free, libre and open"

I agree fully with Angelo, TBH running like for like applications you need
the same hardware.

I think it would have been better to have focused on applications , when
users see they can use a free office application on their existing PC they
then don't see an issue migrating to a different OS, moving people to a new
OS and then telling them , no you can't use word outlook excel publisher
project means they say no thanks but showing people libreoffice opens and
saves their documents they can use scribus for DTP and libreproj instead of
project on their old OS and new Linux OS means the barrier to change is
removed
just my 2p worth.

oh and was there a prize for using the most font sizes ?
