It might be that I'm misunderstanding what you've got - but for the above I'd check the seating of the card. If it's mini PCI and still doesn't work, let me know and I'll bring a spare to the next LUG meeting.

The reason you clone a git tree is so you can make a local branch,
modify it and then submit your patch upstream (probably via the
mailing list), this is common git workflow. Though if you've never
done it, it could well be simpler for you to just create a bug report.
Most of the devices listed in the PCI IDs don't have more than one id,
also there's one reference in the mailing list archive to 27a6 -
listed as a second device function, so perhaps there's something else
going on and the other id is the important one.
I'd suggest you restate your question on the intel mailing list or the
irc channel, someone may know the exact problem.

Solved!
I put it all back and it now works!
I could say it was bad connections - but I will be honest!
First a bit of history:
I dropped it on a carpet (18ins) last week but did not notice anything
was wrong at the time!
I only have a copy of the maintenance manual not a user manual showing
all the buttons etc - get the sense of where I am going!!?
I put it all back OK (getting quite quick at doing it now), still
exhibited same fault. I then noticed that blue tooth was off as well so
checked in the fc18 setup to find it was "disabled in hardware" -
any more clues needed!?
Checked BIOS and all was enabled OK, decided to try to find user manual
but were all .exe files, but found a review with the attached photo!
The T60 has a slider switch on the front edge (that I have never
touched) its use is to switch off Bluetooth/WiFi without playing with
S/W, it was midway between the two positions and (I assume) the drop
just switched it off.
And the lessons to be learned are always RTFM and get a user one even if
you have a maintenance manual and of course, check the simple things first!
That's about enough "dirty linen" for one day.
Regards

Interestingly, mini-PCIe-sockets, can carry both the pci-express
signals and also a USB signal! Though the Intel WLAN cards I
have seen use the pci-e and not USB...
Still, bad connection as above, makes most sense to me.
