I see I see =).

Actually, just compiling a 3.12.7 kernel with the debian patches to
their 'sid' 3.12.6 -- seems to have worked =). Did it all make-kpkg
and manually asked for initramfs to be built and all is well....
Now, i915 DOES see the graphics and X.org now loads intel driver =),
at least with my modified x.org module...... I will need to experiment
and see if e.g. I can get the VGA output going, see how things go. =).
If I find the module modification for PCI IDs was really needed, I'll
try to create a bug about that, to help others with similar machine,
but seemingly later kernels aren't having a problem.
THANKYOU for helpful pointers after my second message, most useful!

Hi Everyone,
Just to introduce myself. I'm Steve Plenty 38 years old & I have been using Linux for three years now when I had enough of running Window, I still class myself a Newbie when it comes to using to terminal I am getting better using it all the time.I am a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Gnome "Classic" user, but I also use Linux Mint Cinnamon desktop along side Ubuntu. I also watch a Program on youtube called "The Linux Action Show" which is good to watch.
I would like to recomend to all "newbie" a PDF book how to use the Terminal "Bash-Beginners-Guide" I found? it on a website called The Linux Documentation Project. It is very helpful if you want to start to use the terminal.
I would like to go to the Bristol and Bath Linux User Group meettings. I would like to give out my Email address if anyone wants to get in contact me, I look forward to hearing from you.
Steve Plenty (keep it free, keep it open source !)

I was thinking more of the home user scenario. For example, a single
pc that sometimes runs Windows and sometimes runs Linux. Or different
devices used by various people in the house at variable times.
