Lovely comment, Dave!
I got a lot of flack many years ago on sci.archaeology for suggesting that
we should try harder to stop the transatlantic brain-drain because those
wide open spaces were obviously decaying the exported grey matter, with
which we failed to export any sense of humour...

You already have! BBLUG is a ... ummm ... loosely affiliated leaderless
collective or something like that. Being on the mailing list (and
perhaps "self identifying" as a member) is all there is to joining.
> please can you tell me more about the group,
BBLUG has been running ... since the mid-late 90's or so. There has
been a once a month meeting (as in, anyone who feels like it turns up at
the pub and talks about ... well ... generally anything and everything
and very occasionally Linux) since early 2000's or so. Occasionally
there are events that are organised by members or under the aegis of
BBLUG. In this vein I think there were some people here plotting an
install fest. There is no official leadership as such so things get
done when someone chooses to do them.
Who is on the list / in the group is kind of difficult to tell. Last
time I spoke to Dave (our tireless list admin) he said there were about
200 people on the list and this had been fairly constant, perhaps with a
slight upward trend over the years and a churn of a couple of people a
month. Then again this was probably in 2007 or something so I may be
completely out of date. Most folks lurk and like most online groups,
less than 10% of people actively post. It's hard to get a feel for what
the 'average' member is like but there is an age range between students
to retirees, an interest range from dabbling hobbiest to professional
and a knowledge range from newbie to kernel hackers.
Somewhere [ aside -- I've just looked at our website ... looking good;
my thanks to any / all involved in resurecting / improving it ] there
are some vauge statements about community norms and what few rules we
have.

Cool! From the questions people ask it seems we have a reasonable
selection of distros represented, although (IMHO) the differences
between them are a lot less than they used to be.

Does this help?

Is this an attempt to clone the machine? If so then there are better
ways of doing this than using a RAID rebuild.
Cheers,
