G'day!
Apologies if this sounds like a marketing E-Mail. I just thought some
people on this list might be interested in a project $JOB is involved
in. Feel free to hit delete now.
$JOB has been commissioned by Ofcom to help analyse the current state of
broadband in the UK.
This project has now gone live and we're hoping to get as many people as
possible to sign up so we can get an accurate picture of people's
broadband experience across the country. The results of this project
will give Ofcom an idea of what sort of experience people are really
getting with their Internet connections.
We gather data via a small software agent installed on your computer.
(Yes, Linux is supported. The agent is written in Python. It'll even run
on a Raspberry Pi!) This agent actively probes your Internet connection
using ping, traceroute and HTTP requests and sends the data back to our
datacentre in Bristol for analysis. We never see or capture anything you
use your computer or Internet connection for. Our tests run in parallel
with, and are completely separate from, your usual Internet activities.
After installing our agent you'll have access to an online dashboard
that will show your broadband experience for various Internet services
in near real time. (An example of what you will see is here:
http://www.actual-experience.com/blog/?p=1168 )
If you'd like to help please sign up at
http://www.actual-experience.com/bbfix
If you have friends or family who might be interested, especially those
with poor broadband experiences, feel free to forward on this message.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me.
Thanks!
Shane.

Presumably multiple operating systems or devices means multiple
agents. Is the data from these multiple agents aggregated?

How much data does it send/receive? Obviously this would impact on
service of a slow connection and cost of a metered connection.
> If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me.
How much does it really cost? A minimum spend of 50 units of ?20
sounds unaffordable to most people.

Hi,
I switched my Thinkpad on today and no wireless (ethernet is OK).
I did some basics as I have dual boot and checked on another OS (Mint)
and Windoze with same result.
I have a "Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG" controller on my
Fedora 19 with a mini pci card installed. I can see the driver iwl3945
is loaded but cannot seem to see the card on either the pci or usb bus.
Can I determine if its the card or aerial as I have flexed the screen
recently!?
PCI, USB and module information attached.
I will be getting a screwdriver out later today to look and wiggle a few
connections!
Regards
