I have this phone also, bought off-contract. I am very pleased with it
generally. It received the latest Android update (4.4) very quickly
after it was released.
It might be worth noting that Motorola have just been bought from
Google, by Lenovo. I don't know how this will affect future support for
this device, but hopefully Lenovo will continue to provide timely
updates and support, if the acquisition goes ahead (I'm not sure if it
is 100% confirmed). I have painful memories of buying a Nokia Symbian
smartphone weeks before they decided to drop Symbian in favour of
Windows Phone...

I have the Moto G as well, I've had it a couple of weeks and been very
happy with it. It replaced my Galaxy Nexus and compares very well, Android
on the Moto G is very close to stock as installed on the Nexus and I feel
the screen is better and the phone seems more responsive in general than
the Nexus.
All that said I decided to tinker ( as I imagine many of us would ) and
installed CyanogenMod on my Nexus. I've been using it as a mobile hotspot
and back up phone for the past few days and have to say I'm really
impressed with CyanogenMod 11 which is based on Android 4.4.
It's possible to install CM on the Moto G and given that there a some
additional privacy controls in CM compared with stock Android you might
want to give it a look if app permissions are a concern. I'm certainly
considering it myself.

Subject: [bristol] Our usual monthly LUG meeting this Saturday :)

Hi
I had a enjoyable Linux Live last Saturday :), but now this coming up
Saturday is our usual Bristol and Bath Linux User Group (BBLUG) meeting
at the Knight's Templar pub:
http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-knights-templar Which is
located in Temple Quay, near Temple Meads train station (and Broadmead).
I assume some visitors who came to the event last Saturday, might be
coming to the LUG meeting for their first time this Saturday. The
meeting's are rather informal pub meeting's, where people turn up and
leave when they decide to. For new people I suggest not turning up
until 1:30pm by the earliest when at least someone else is more likely
to be there as well, and people usually leave between 4/5pm, but some of
us may stay later to about 6pm depending on what happens.
The LUG meeting's are very informal and it really does depend on who is
there what people talk about and with whom, and be that tech related or
otherwise. However they can also be used to show or give away
Linux/tech related things, but also for tech support depending on the
issue and who is there. If however someone reading this is thinking of
coming along to get some tech help of some sort, please mention on the
mailing list about that first, otherwise they may come along and get
disappointed, because no one could help or as such, depending on what
help was wanted.
At the pub we sit in the left hand side corner with the plugs at the
back on the lower level, or near there instead, and I hope to meet
quite a few of you there this Saturday, as in new people and regulars.
I probably won't be there myself until about 2pm by the way.
Please reply back to this email on the mailing list if you are intending
on coming. Also please also optionally send an introduction to this
mailing list about yourself when it comes to Linux etc.
Regards
Sebastian
