Have you tried Rosegarden?. It enables you to write music in traditional
notation, print the composition, replay and edit it, play midi files -
makes decent coffee.

https://www.bitwig.com/en/bitwig-studio.html

it is due for release 1.0 on march 26 .... and should be for linux,
osx and windows, but beta on invitation only, it seems it won't make
coffee, but .... :)
by the way at the moment I use audacity, multi platfom, for what I
need it's more then enough. I know there are also jack

Hi Max,

There are a couple of distros which have media production as their focus,
you might find they have what you're after:

http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/

http://ubuntustudio.org/

I'm using Ubuntu Studio ( although for the photographic tools not music
production ).

It might also be worth taking a look at this forum which I stumbled across
while looking for the details of kxstudio: http://linuxmusicians.com/

Good luck.

Adrian

Hi Sebastian,

unfortunately looks like I'm not going to be able to make it up to help
next week end. Last night I found out that one of the people in an
organisation I volunteer with who was due to be on next Saturday has had to
drop out so I'm now needed to make up the numbers, either that or the group
can't go out at all due to our insurance requirements.

If anything changes between now and then I'll let you know.

Adrian

Hi Guys,
I've used rosegarden, although as I can't read or write music in standard
notation I just used it as a midi sequencer and had the outputs hooked up
to ardour via jackd.

I've been watching the bitwig beta for a couple of years, I'm interested to
see how it will turn out, although for the next few years at least I'm
sorted. I bit the bullet and bought a new Mac Book Pro and an ableton push
to go with the software I already had.

Thanks, Max B
