My OH charges hers with the charger and cable that came with her HTC
Wildfire S
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-HTC-Charger-Wildfire-Inspire/dp/B004VR9US6>.
I think it claims to output 5.0V at 1A.
I charge my Moto G with a bunch of possibly-fake Samsung Galaxy S II
chargers and one definite genuine original that came with my GS II. The
possibly-fake ones were bought from I-KNOT on Amazon Marketplace
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004VMC9UM>. They don't seem to sell
them anymore, but I've used Prepaymania before (for HTC-branded accessories
for my old Hero) and they seem to only sell genuine branded accessories.
They all claim to output 5.0V at 0.7A (which I find odd, as regular USB only
guarantees 5.0V at 500mA, and the charging standard signaled by shorting the
data lines is supposed to guarantee upto 1A or 1.5A depending on the
standard you're reading; perhaps Samsung devices only draw <500mA when
connected to a regular USB port and 500mA when connected to a charger).
<https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/97318/p/30,6720,9050/action/auth>
describes the Moto G charger specs; 5V at between 500mA to 1.5A (any more is
superfluous). The text suggests that the charging circuitry in the Moto G
is intelligent enough to reduce the current drawn if the voltage drops below
5V. Mine took about 1.5hrs to charge to 100% from 50%, so I estimate 3hrs
from flat. Given the Moto G's 2070 mAh battery, that suggests it draws the
maximum 700mA from my Samsung chargers.
> I also read that I could use a mains/usb plug PS and use the supplied
> cable.
That's how my OH's HTC charger is; a combination of UK 3-pin adaptor, a
generic SMPSU with USB A output, and a USB A to micro B cable. She's using
the cable that came with the charger rather than the one with the Moto G.
HTH,
Alex

Hi Peter, I have a Moto G as well. I haven't had problems charging it but I
always use a mains usb plug with a decent cable, more often than not the
one supplied with the phone.
I've charged with supplies varying from 700mA to 2A with no problem.
Regards,
Adrian

I second this. My Moto G has had no problems charging from a 5V supplies
with a variety of current ratings, including mains USB chargers, so I
would say that the Moto G (at least my unit) is not very picky about the
supply, as long as it is 5V.

Thanks, I had found that as well but its not my exact problem.
Update:
I have left an email with motorola and contacted phone support at Tesco
Direct!
They advised me to fully discharge and try again - maybe the sort of
problem in article but I do not get any varying charge state.
They also suggested a full reset but I have now downloaded some large
apps via my capped usage ISP, so I wanted to back it up. Tried Windoze
XP with motorola "Device Manager" and it keeps trying to update but will
not run!
If Motorola cannot/will not sort it out, I will take it back later this
week with my 2 PS's and ask Tesco to get it to work or replace!
I do not want to keep messing about trying to get a "right" PS
especially as others did not have a problem.

Hi
Bring the phone and your chargers on tues and I'll do the same. We can
then see if it's the phone or the charger.

Hi,
A conundrum for a Sunday morning!
I have a Moto G which does not come with a power supply, it only comes
with a micro usb to usb cable that works OK from my TV.
I have two "CE" micro usb 5 volt supplies, one 1.5 amp and the other
2 amp.
One of them came with an android TV dongle the other I bought for a
raspberry pi, both work with my android dongle and not with the
Moto G. The phone does not detect any charger, I have tried charging
from sleep, switched on and off, nothing detected.
I cannot think it can be anything other than quality differences in the
cable or the phone is very particular with voltage!
Anyone had similar problems?
PS I have read of some problems with charging S/W but I have upgraded to
"Kitkat". I also read that I could use a mains/usb plug PS and use the
supplied cable.
Regards

People invited me to this gathering last weekend at the LinuxLive

Did you go to the left hand side corner on the lower level when entering
the pub at the back? That's where the LUG tends to be, with the plugs,
and if not there some where near.
I would have been there myself today as well, but later on, however in
the end, because of certain reasons that did not end up happening.
Did you read my email from a few days ago about the LUG meeting coming
up? Seems you had the time ok, I suggest newbies don't turn up until
1:30pm when someone else is more likely to be there as well.
Website should be updated really to 1pm I think as well, who actsually
turns up at 12:30pm? No one usually?

Ok a good turn out, and I should have been there myself as well really,
but then things happened that resulted in me not going. However I wonder
if my idea of having the event the Saturday before the usual LUG
meeting, actually bought in some new people or not?
Regards
Sebastian
P.S
Nothing to do with Libre Planet why I didn't go, and been many live
streams issues for that.

We were there about 8-10 people between around 13.40 - 15.45 and later. I just got home now.

Chris, I'm going to come to the pub tomorrow afternoon, The pc had no option
in the BIOS for booting from USB. so Peter is going to let me have a disk.
The laptop is away as the hard drive is dying and its going to have to have
a new IDE drive (rare but available new on ebay!)
Dave.

I've noticed a pattern forming here. I think you need a new dvd drive.
Perhaps if you get an external dvd-writer, you'll solve all your problems.

Actually, the laptop had a new motherboard and dvd drive here in Britain under maintenance last year, whilst the PC has two DVD RW drives, but little used since I built the pc some years ago!
The laptop's hard drive is only 4 years old, put in when it was serviced and upgraded when on holiday in France. A hard drive twice the size of the original, bigger ram, sorted out a startup roblem in XP and upgraded Office by a couple of years - all for E140, after my explaining the problems in Franglais - brilliant value for money!

I think we have been here before!
To clarify your position could you confirm:
You have a laptop that is away with info on the DVD you are using.
Yes, the email from the group member who gave me the disk is on the
laptop. That is why I can't quote his name.
You have no rescue Cd's/Sticks and cannot burn any.
I tried to make the rescue cd suggested by Andy, but failed. I don't
know how to create rescue "sticks" and now have no disk recording
programme since EasyCd died a few years ago, apart from the basic
windows copy programme.
You have not got any magazine DVD's (such as LXF) with memory test.
Wrong! I have plenty of LXformat disks, but do not use them as most
Linux is beyond me (I'm79) and experience with rescue sytems only
brings up a mulitude of questions that need a PhD to understand, let
alone answer.
How can I run a memory test on a PC that can't run?
I have been using Suse since v 9.1, 10, 11 and 12, and now 13, but
as a user, not a geek!
You have another machine you are using for emailing but cannot use
it for burning.
That is correct - as I said, EasyCD in my desktop PC died a few
years ago. I can COPY straight files to CD with windows. But nothing
more exotic like iso things, DVDs and videos etc.
You are not prepared to delve into the PC to remove an HD.
That is a silly statement! I have been into the Dell before, some
years ago, to replace a sound card, but have no way of identifiying
two identical hard drives. Also, it is a VERY big and very heavy box
for me to try and handle!
You have an apparent error on the DVD and do not have another.
Yes, that is what I said.
If you have no means of burning and no SuSe install disc then the
quickest option is to get one to you rather than get into another
long thread like before!
When you get this resolved please make some rescue media to get
information easily.
The information I supplied was given by the Install DVD itself, when
set to validate itself, as recommended to me by this group.
I have a February LXF with OpenSUSE13.1 disc I can burn and send or
you can collect from Backwell. I think its 32bit.
Thank you, but I DO have the LXformat Suse13.1 disk, BUT it is
64bit, not 32!
I discovered that when I tried to install 13.1 from it onto my
laptop, and failed, so a group member kindly sent me a 32bit
version, which DID install on the laptop, though it DOES throw up on
error which could be corrected if there was a boot menu.lst in 13.1,
but there isn't.
I have found something similar buried in a different location, not
in boot, but cannot edit it, as was suggested by a group member.
Let me know off-list if you want one?
But I don't have an email address for you - so how could I ?
Dave are you mobile enough to make tomorrows LUG meeting at the
Knights Templar pub by Temple Meads in Bristol?
You wouldn't need to bring anything. If you have a 6GB or greater
sized USB stick - bring that.
FYI - there's no need to disassemble the computer, internally
connected HDD are highly unlikely to cause the issue you're seeing.
Be sure to disconnect all externally connected storage devices though
(USB HDD, USB Phones, USB CD/DVD, etc ).
It's not clear whether you've sent your laptop away for repair and/or
if you have it and it has a problem booting.
Laptop - It's not necessary to edit the GRUB2 files manually, there's
a utility to do it automatically.

A copy of http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ will allow you to create a
bootable USB stick. Very useful !!

Dave are you mobile enough to make tomorrows LUG meeting at the
Knights Templar pub by Temple Meads in Bristol?

An alternative to this which is packaged with the openSUSE
distribution (so perhaps easier for Dave to install if he has any
machine that boots and recent version of SUSE) is called
"imagewriter".
It will burn a bootable USB stick of the official openSUSE ISO image
(downloaded from the website). Its a very simple GUI application with
3 buttons (select the USB disk device, select the ISO file, write the
USB stick).

Yes, the email from the group member who gave me the disk is on the laptop.
That is why I can't quote his name.

I tried to make the rescue cd suggested by Andy, but failed. I don't know
how to create rescue "sticks" and now have no disk recording programme since
EasyCd died a few years ago, apart from the basic windows copy programme.
> You have not got any magazine DVD's (such as LXF) with memory test.
Wrong! I have plenty of LXformat disks, but do not use them as most Linux is
beyond me (I'm79) and experience with rescue sytems only brings up a
mulitude of questions that need a PhD to understand, let alone answer.
How can I run a memory test on a PC that can't run?
I have been using Suse since v 9.1, 10, 11 and 12, and now 13, but as a
user, not a geek!
> You have another machine you are using for emailing but cannot use it

That is correct - as I said, EasyCD in my desktop PC died a few years ago. I
can COPY straight files to CD with windows. But nothing more exotic like iso
things, DVDs and videos etc.
> You are not prepared to delve into the PC to remove an HD.
That is a silly statement! I have been into the Dell before, some years ago,
to replace a sound card, but have no way of identifiying two identical hard
drives. Also, it is a VERY big and very heavy box for me to try and handle!
> You have an apparent error on the DVD and do not have another.
Yes, that is what I said.

The information I supplied was given by the Install DVD itself, when set to
validate itself, as recommended to me by this group.
> I have a February LXF with OpenSUSE13.1 disc I can burn and send or

Thank you, but I DO have the LXformat Suse13.1 disk, BUT it is 64bit, not
32!
I discovered that when I tried to install 13.1 from it onto my laptop, and
failed, so a group member kindly sent me a 32bit version, which DID install
on the laptop, though it DOES throw up on error which could be corrected if
there was a boot menu.lst in 13.1, but there isn't.
I have found something similar buried in a different location, not in boot,
but cannot edit it, as was suggested by a group member.

Hi Dave,
A disc failure would explain why not all the files installed at least.
I gather from your early comments that you are unable to burn a new DVD
on your laptop. If your wife's computer supports booting from USB you
could try using Unetbootin to create a bootable USB stick and trying
installing from that although if it's running XP it might be old enough
that the motherboard doesn't offer USB booting.
I would imagine your wife would probably just like to have a working
machine for the moment so you could reinstall the Windows XP boot loader
while you are sorting out a new Suse install disk. To reinstall the XP
boot loader you will need the XP install disk, then follow the
instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
If your wife's machine has a working DVD burner I guess that would also
allow you to burn a new Suse DVD.
Cheers,
Adrian

I think we have been here before!
To clarify your position could you confirm:
You have a laptop that is away with info on the DVD you are using.
You have no rescue Cd's/Sticks and cannot burn any.
You have not got any magazine DVD's (such as LXF) with memory test.
You have another machine you are using for emailing but cannot use it
for burning.
You are not prepared to delve into the PC to remove a HD.
You have an apparent error on the DVD and do not have another.

If you have no means of burning and no SuSe install disc then the
quickest option is to get one to you rather than get into another long
thread like before!
When you get this resolved please make some rescue media to get
information easily.
I have a February LXF with OpenSUSE13.1 disc I can burn and send or you
can collect from Backwell. I think its 32bit.
Let me know off-list if you want one?
