Hi,

I just replied to a message from my relation and it bounced:

Reporting-MTA: dns; smtpout.karoo.kcom.com

Final-Recipient: rfc822;betty.*******@hotmail.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure)
Remote-MTA: dns; [65.55.92.***]
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-"SC-004
(SNT0-MC1-F53) Unfortunately, messages from ***.**.***.** weren't sent.
We recommend that you contact your Internet service provider. The
problem is that too many unwanted messages have been sent from the
following IP address above. You can also refer your provider to
http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors." (delivery
attempts: 0)

Tried a couple more and the same happened. Tried single new email and,
yes it was blocked as expected. Did a virus scan on my .thunderbird
directory and did not find anything. wne I fist replied I thought
Thunderbird quickly flashed up "64 messages..."!!

I assume that's what triggered the server to block me. Is that correct
and if so how do I go about sorting the problem?

(Fedora 19 and Thunderbird 24, IMAP on Eclipse)

Works OK here! (I hope)

Thanks

Hi Peter,

Firstly, pop your IP into this:
http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

Secondly, is your IP static or dynamic? Has it changed recently?

Basically though, the message is right. Hotmail don't want to hear from you
- you're blacklisted on that IP.

If you send directly via postfix etc from your PC to the recipient server,
you can change to send via a "smarthost" (like your ISP). If you already
send via a smarthost, you're blacklisted in the above tool and your IP
hasn't changed, you probably have a malicious script using your PC as a
spam bot.

Without more information, it's hard to say.

It was listed by SORBS SPAM but went back and checked the IP wich I did
not recongnize! and I cannot look it up (212.50.160.34). I assume its an
eclipe one.

Static, and then checked router which was set to dynamic! I think
Elcipse asked me to chang it when I was getting slow speeds about 6
months ago and I did not change it back!
Reset it and still get the same error from the same IP.

OK

You lost me there! I just use Thunderbird set to use Elcipse's IMAP
server and SMTP that I have never changed in years (I think).

Should ClamAV have found that?

Will try again tomorrow an do a complete virus check (getting a bit
paranoid now!).

would seem the issue is with Eclipse, not you. Also, spam bot scripts would
typically send directly from your IP to Hotmail, bypassing the middle-man.

ClamAV apparently has a very high detection rate, relative to commercial
alternatives, but I've only had 2 viruses in 20 years and am not a good
person to ask.

I'm going to send you a email off-list with details of my SMTP server,
which you are free to use as long as you wish
