I left message on Skype forum a week or so ago, no replies but lots of
reads!).
I just had a play (FC18) with gnome Desktop and it kept booting.
Its not in start up applications, or the gnome configuration files or logs.
Tried several times and it was constant.
Realized I had other Desktops to try! so tried Cinnamon
- it worked OK on several boots (opened Skype then quit then rebooted or
logged out then in).
Tried LXDE and that worked
So I thought it must be Gnome and tried again and......................
..............................
its now working!
Tried it several times and it still works.
I assume there was something saved as a previous session an now it isn't!?
I dunno much about these things, who said Linux was stable and reliable!
(a joke)
All the best

Indeed... Though I suspect SORBS aren't (directly) the problem
but whatever spam problem was happening probably triggered both
sorbs and hotmail to react to it, I suspect.
Hotmail were blocking that eclipse server IP and in my experience
they are a 'law unto themselves'.
Seemingly they act a bit like an internal whitelist, too...
I had a situation where we setup an office on Zen internet with
static IPs with static reverse DNS pointers properly forward
confirmed, and were using the "mail." address for outgoing
email sending. This address was as far as I could tell, not on
any blacklists, correctly registered in DNS and whois sensible etc.
And...
All 'new' emails to hotmail from the IP were consistently dropped --
not rejected, not bounced, not put into Spam folder, just dropped.
BUT, valid 'replies' to hotmail-sourced emails WERE accepted.
EVENTUALLY the reputation 'improved' somehow and they started
accepting the emails to spam at first, or something like that.
I would add that Thunderbird is almost always used with an external
SMTP server.... Hence indeed eclipse infrastructure server is
what matters, not 'your' IP address. Some 'traditional' mailers
or things like local CGI scripts etc. tend to use sendmail on
localhost and so-forth.....
Hope that helps,

Hi
Same venue, date and times as announced before for Linux Live, an event
aimed at the general public. That's at the Pervasive Media Studio in
the Watershed between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 15th March 2014. On the
day volunteers are also welcome to help out.
The main new information since my last LUG update is that it was decided
by most of the group to go with only 3 distro's and interfaces for the
remasters (even though we ended up with 4 distro's and interfaces). With
the remasters certain software that isn't normally in distro's that
average computer users will probably want pre-installed will be
installed, and also distribution updates, and a Bristol Grub 2 theme.
Official Live CD's/DVD's of the distro's will be available at the event
for giving away as well as the remasters, and some other things as well.
A website is on the verge of properly being made for the event as well:

We are going to have demonstration computers, and a waiting area as
well. The idea is that potential users who have been in the
demonstration area will get given a remastered distro on a USB to take
home. This is not an installfest this is an event that's all about the
live aspect of the distros that are used, and helping to get more people
using Linux distros.

It seems to me might be a good idea to have a VirtualBox installed on
a M$ or/and in a OSX computer, to show an other way to operate with a
linux distro without pain of double boot or format the disk. If
samebody of us have a computer with windows or an apple ... :))

No the whole idea is to get people off Windows, hence why they wanted
these remasters. A suggestion did come up at the last meeting from
someone to maybe have Codeweavers showing Microsoft Office running though.
Maybe there should be a disc for Windows with some of the programs such
as Firefox and Libre Office?

Running virtualised Linux under Windows is a no-no, but the other way
round is OK? That appears inconsistent.

Running Virtualised Linux under Windows, can help make some people later
make the switch, but none of the demonstration computers at the event
will be running Windows, in fact none of them will be even running the
distro I personally mainly wanted and de, but that's something else.
There might be a disc for WIndows with some of the programs though as
well such as Firefox and Libre Office, if one is made.

I am unwell today, and as a result I didn't go to the LUG meeting
earlier. To some extent I wonder what kind of turn out it got, and who
was there?

Why jump from the "Great Satan" to the "evil"? If you're going to go
through the pain of switching, might as well go to one of the new wave
of WebRTC (Web-based Real Time Communication) sites. Lumicall (open)
and Facemeeting.com (not really open) were looking promising but I'm not
watching this space closely.
Hope that informs,

Not necessarily. (And only if you're as willing to be led by the nose as
much as your friends and family are.)
The solution of course is to educate those around you by practical
demonstration (i.e. application) of the viable alternatives.
Oh, sorry -- I forgot. That would entail a little effort - and thought -
wouldn't it ?
Nah; ballocks to that -- let's take the path of least resistance, as
worked out by the profit-obsessed marketroids -- who couldn't give a
monkey's whether their attitude and behaviour is ethical or not, as long
as the money keeps rolling in.
Greed is good; innit ?
And who cares about the punters ? They're so stupid they'll just go
along with whatever they're told to do, anyway.

The only tool you need for webrtc sites is a reasonably current browser,
so that doesn't explain going to the evil in this example. Send the

Message-ID: <52B1EFB9.40505@gmx.com>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed
Hi
The BBLUG meeting comes a week earlier this Saturday, because of
Christmas, and it's also the last one of 2013. I didn't end up going
last month, but I hope that this one will get a good turn out of about
20 people :). Lurkers, new people, regulars, if you can make it this
Saturday please join us :) at the Knight's Templar Pub in Temple Quay:
http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-knights-templar
If you are new I suggest not turning up untill about 1:30pm by the
earlist, because of when other people are likely to be there. Personally
I will probably be there just after 2pm. We also sit on the lower level
in the left hand side corner when entering the pub, by the plugs, or
near there if not. People tend to leave between 4 and 5/6pm.
We chat about various things and not just opensource/freesoftware.
People can also come along for some Linux related tech support, but it
will depend on the issue and who is there, if any help is received or
not. People can also come along and show things to other people that
are there, that may be of interest to them that are tech related. Free
WIFI is available at the pub as well, and food and drinks etc.
Please reply back on the mailing list if you are intending on being
there! If you are new and likely to be there, please also optionally
send a introduction about yourself to this mailing list. Regulars and
people who don't come often can also optionally send a introduction
about themselves, which would help certain people get an idea as to who
they are as well.
Regards
Sebastian

The only tool you need for webrtc sites is a reasonably current browser,
so that doesn't explain going to the evil in this example. Send the
trigger link through facebook chat if you really want.

Subject: [bristol] Last BBLUG meeting of 2013 this Saturday!
Regards
Sebastian

gnome-session-properties may not always show all your startup
applications
Each can be made hidden by modifying their independent files
in /etc/xdg/startup/{name-of-file}
this can be done by modifying in the file
NoDisplay=true to NoDisplay=false
Look in this directory and see if there a file to start up skupe
Cheers

I have a few (a lot) but mainly cache stuff, quickly looked and could
not see anything. I don't think its a "User" problem.

I have a few (a lot) but mainly cache stuff, quickly looked and could
not see anything. I don't think its a "User" problem.

Assuming it's a relatively recent install it might be worth checki|ng
~/.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart manually.
It could be that gnome-session-properties isn't showing an entry that it
should.

A long shot but you could try:
grep -ri skype ~
to search through your home directory for anything that mentions Skype.
You might spot it lurking in a gconf file or something.

Hi
Any luck fixing the problem yet?
I have just done a quick search and every link seems to be point towards
using "gnome-session-properties" / "Startup Applications".
I think there is a config file in which you can put "startup
applications" in; but I can't think of what it's called at the moment.
I think I found some information that may help; read:

OK will look later. I will also have a look at Fedora stuff as I think a
few things have changed since I last looked a few years ago.
If not I will post to the Skype forum, after checking there again to
see if its been raised.

Hi
I might be joining them at the pub, but not sure if I will be or not
yet. Are any of the rest of you from our BBLUG intending on going I
wonder, and if so who?

Yep basically it will be a social, but as Linux/FOSS lovers, we inevitably
'talk shop' when down the pub! Good chance to meet us and find out more, no
strings attached!
I imagine at least some of us will last a couple of hours, anything longer
and we may no longer make much sense!!

between 6pm and 7pm probably. How will I know if I come along, who the

Yep basically it will be a social, but as Linux/FOSS lovers, we inevitably
'talk shop' when down the pub! Good chance to meet us and find out more, no
strings attached!
I imagine at least some of us will last a couple of hours, anything longer
and we may no longer make much sense!!

You keep saying that you disagree but you have yet to suggest a solution
to the problem.
How can an OS stop users installing malware and yet allow them to
install software? Should the OS provider vet every line of code and
design the OS so only software signed by them can be installed? Apple
try to do this and there's still malware to be found in the App Store.

Do you have examples of this? Apple does actually vet all the code going on
the apple store, we've had code rejected for fairly minor infractions of
coding standards (not my code :D )

Ah, the infamous Apple 0wnz J00 argument.
While it is true that Apple controls their users world, both in app store
and wall garden the OS, for any savvy user above the normal Zombie types
out there, this becomes overly restrictive.
I think this argument is simply put, that a balance / happy medium needs to
be struck ( perfect / infallible ?) not on your life, as we know nothing
is.
I had this discussion in some detail with guys here, this was about the
amount of spam / port scans and other area's of misbehavior of peoples
systems whom are part of the botnet collective.
I came to the conclusion that it would be good for ISP's to have a 3
strikes system and black list by home address. Basically after 3 strikes
they are off the interwebs and placed on the blacklist. It is pushed to
the owner of the PC to clean or take it somewhere to get it cleaned. The
blacklist exists to prohibit the home owner signing up with a new provider.
Once the problem is solved they can carry on as normal.
This seemed pretty straight forward to me.

A few questions:
- Is your RT installation really under /opt?
- What are you trying to achieve by using Plack?
- What does your Apache error log show?

- Is your RT installation really under /opt?
Yes (presumably default as I didn't change anything)
- What are you trying to achieve by using Plack?

If you're running on Debian, as I believe you are, and if you installed
from the Debian packages, RT is not under /opt. If you didn't install
from the Debian packages, why is that?

Happy to start again and do it properly!

Do that. I recommend you install the database you want to use first, if
not already installed, then RT. Then follow the instructions
in /usr/share/doc/request-tracker4/README.Debian.gz.
