might be a little bit advanced for noobies, but the LPI stuff is
pretty good and there is a lot of it online - IBM does a decent
version - http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-lpic1-
v3-map/index.html


if you google more for LPI training materials, there is a ton out
there.

yeah second the LPI stuff.

I started with "UNIX Unleashed" and went from there. LPI is much more
friendly though

The University of Bristol has in the past run Linux/Unix training
sessions for scientists starting out using Linux clusters (who have
had little or no Linux/Unix experience previously). The tutorial
material is freely available online and might provide a good starting
point for your own teaching -- the tutorial is licensed under a
Creative Commons license.
