That's what I'd expect, but it should also have created an executable "dht11" binary file.
And just for your "entertainment", you probably could have "fixed" the problem by using " dht11.c" (including the quotes) as your filename, although it would have been a rather perverse (and definitely not recommended) way of doing it... :)

More perverse is putting the space(s) at the end of the filename so
they're not obvious in 'ls' without the '-b' option.

Update - sensor connected and it works, but problem for another day,
cannot get cron to work with configuration atm.
