I'd just like to confirm that "ssh -X" is by far the best and most
secure (though I know you're within the house WiFi) way of working
remotely.
You can even do it in Windows with cygwinX.
If you need to see (and use) the whole desktop of the remote Linux
box, then, through your ssh -X session, install x11vnc and gvncviewer
on the remote box, then start "x11vnc :0 &" and use "gvncviewer
localhost:0" to produce a window on the local box showing the whole
desktop of the remote box!
You can create another, virtual, desktop too, if you want, by "x11vnc
--create &"
Have fun

Thanks for that useful info.
I did go through this a few years ago, but, as I did not quite get my
head around it (and it was not important), I did not pursue it. As I
am a bit immobilised ATM its now a bit more important otherwise I climb
the stairs on my backside and you don't want to be doing that too often
in a day!
Alex did give me similar advice a few tears ago, he must be away or fed
up with repeating himself!
