Unusually, we have a mature field without one clear winner. Debian
offers me xfractint and xaos, which I recognize, and also fraqtive and
fractalnow, which are new to me. What I want is something that lets me
create hi-res lossless bitmaps suitable for printing in A4 at my
nothing-special inkjet printer's maximum resolution ("up to" 600 dpi).
After looking at all their websites I'm no wiser as to which to go
with. Anyone able to nominate a winner?

Dunno about a winner, but I seem to remember I eventually went with
fraqtive as giving me the best results for what I wanted at the time. (A3
