you can then do anything you want with it, such as put in your own dhdpd config

Compliant DHCP clients and servers should result in the client being
assigned the same IP address indefinitely, as long as it hasn't already been
reallocated to another client.

Therefore, the lease time only really affects how often the client checks in
to see if it's OK to carry on using the details it was assigned from its
last lease.
