Hi,
For completeness (and anyone interested) this is what to do to get it
working with rpm packages:
Used this info:

Did some more checking and found I had not installed iscan plugin package:
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModuleFromResult
All now works OK
(Some) Scanners are still not simple to get working!
