I have had a battery fail like this, it was a few years back and a phone
battery, but the charge control chip gave up on the battery. I could
sometimes get it to see sense and charge, but not often and a new
battery fixed it.
I would not spend much time on a 3 year old battery.
I have got a 901 eeepc battery in pieces, and can tell you they do not
come apart in any reversible way. There are temperature sensors and
chips between the cells and maybe much more.

It's an Asus Eee PC 1025C

There are various other numbers inside, but I think that's the one you want.

Any ideas?

Paul.

I have an Asus Eee PC - a 10 inch netbook, which has gone pretty much
everywhere with me for maybe three or four years and been wonderfully
reliable. On Wednesday this week, the battery decided to stop charging.

It powered off unexpectedly in the middle of a meeting, and since then the
battery refuses to charge. I can run it on the battery, and it drains as
usual; I can run it plugged in to the power and it operates perfectly well,
but it does not increase the battery charge level and the battery indicator
says it is 0 minutes until it is recharged - which is a lie.

I have taken the battery out and re-fitted it. No change.

When plugged in and on standby, the battery does not change. Last night I
left it switched off and plugged in overnight, and the battery indicator
increased from 13% to 14%. Not sure how significant that is.

When I try to search online, all I find is articles about fixing battery
problems on Windows machines.

This does not seem to be a normal battery problem: I expect charge and
performance to decline over time, I don't expect it to suddenly stop
recharging. I can just buy a new battery, but if anyone has any bright
ideas about what might have happened, how I might prevent it happening
again, or what might fix it, I would be glad to hear them.

Many thanks!

Paul.

Up for a visit to the Knight's Templar Pub near Temple Meads train
station this Saturday? For our usual monthly Linux User Group Meeting!
Some of us are likely to be there between 1:30pm and 5:30pm. For anyone
that may not know, we sit in the left hand side corner at the back of
the pub on the lower level by the plugs, or near there instead if
someone else is already there. So why not come along for a chat and
possibly to show us interesting tech related things even? I expect to be
there about 2pm or about 3pm, but what about other people?

Bit of a mix-up here. We usually sit in the raised area, on the left
as seen from the door. We go for the corner tables if we can because
they're nearest the mains sockets!

If in doubt, look for people with laptops.

We have two vacancies, one for a junior Linux support person, and one for
a senior Linux consultant.

Both roles are based just outside Monmouth. We're not served by public
transport so you'll need your own transport. The senior role can be worked
from home 2-3 days a week if you want.

Junior role: ?20K - ?25K, details:
https://www.tiger-computing.co.uk/junior-linux-support-role/

Senior role: ?30K - ?50K, details:
https://www.tiger-computing.co.uk/jobs/linux-support-consultant/

Here's how one of our employees described working here:

"Working at Tiger Computing really is as interesting as it sounds ? if you
can stand the pace! It?s a small company so I get a big say in how we do
things, and there?s always someone ready to help out when I need a hand.
We don?t just fix things ? we build some pretty cool infrastructure for
our clients too, and I love the challenge of getting that just right.

I hesitated for months before applying to Tiger Computing, but I?m so glad
I did in the end. I still find myself wanting to get up and go to work,
which was a feeling I?d started to miss in my old job.?

To apply, send a CV and a covering letter explaining why you are the right
person for the role you are applying for to: jobs@tiger-computing.co.uk.
Questions regarding the roles may be sent to that address, too.

Thanks,
Keith

I updated the BIOS OK but the boot still takes a long time mainly due it
resetting HPET:

[ 60.586334] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): virbr0: link is not ready
[ 63.542817] fuse init (API version 7.23)
[ 74.008023] Adjusting hpet more than 11% (2611938570 vs 2601267907)

[ 104.833647] Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast
[ 104.833655] Bluetooth: BNEP socket layer initialized
[peter@localhost ~]$

Is this a H/W (CPU) problem with the timer?

BTW its always 10% off!

Yes, your BIOS version (2.05) is old, the current version appears to
be 2.27. See
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-63027#notes for a
bootable CD for updating the BIOS. I will leave it to you, to decide

No, idea, I personally would update the BIOS, to eliminate the BIOS as
a possible problem. Then you would know.

Yep - I have a few problems!

Attached is my dmesg, it seems I have an old BIOS (not reported
before), APCI and a wrong chip version!

I can I assume the problems were unlikely to be due doing an upgrade
rather than a fresh install?

Are the problems likely to be due to just BIOS or have I a more complex
problem?
